Default Carb/Choke Questions

I have a carb for a 90/110 cc engine that I'd like some info about. Primarily, what are the 3 settings on the choke for? I can assume one is for choke to start it and one for 'running mode'. But which is which and what is the 3rd setting for?

In one position its entirely closed. In the middle its partially open. Then in the last its about all the way open.

Here is a picture to show what I'm looking at:

I also have 2 different intake manifolds (Is that the right term??) for it. One is solid but not crooked. I can't install the air filter with this one (which is the one that was on it and the previous owner ran it without a filter). The other is bent properly but has a connection for an air hose of some sort. I saw a mysterious black box in the parts bin it came with. I'm assuming some sort of CA smog stuff?

Here's the pic:

Also, what is the purpose of the small hose coming off the side seen in the first picture? Is it an overflow? Or does it suck in air? And how about the long hose coming from the bottom of the bowl? Is it a drain hose or does it suck in air? When I was cleaning it I noticed a tall, narrow tube inside that connected to the lower hose.

It's just a standard 3 position choke lever used for years. Off position is with the butterfly valve level with the carb nozzle, full choke position with the butterfly valve closed, and mid choke withe the butterfly valve open a bit that you can move to from the full choke position when it cranks and warms up a bit if needed. The Chinese experts on board can help on the barbed tube on the intake, but if it's not needed you could cap it with a rubber plug. I don't have the foggiest idea what the Chinese are up to on that one..

I have the little nozzle on the intake tube capped already. The previous tube didn't have it and it ran (barely). I was just curious what it was for.

When you say OFF position, you mean the CHOKE is off, right? Not like that is the position to use when its off? So this would be the normal running position, then?

If I'm reading right, fully closed butterfly is FULL CHOKE, used for starting. Middle setting with the butterfly barely open is used to get it warm after its started. Then fully open is just the normal running setting. Right?

Just as an FYI for anyone else. I did find a plate on my quad that said it was California certified. I am assuming that is what the extra nipple on the intake is for. It runs just fine with it capped off.

I've got another question. In the first picture, the screw near the bottom of the float bowl - is that an Air/Fuel mixture screw (as the carb adjusting guide in this section would suggest) or is it a drain plug? When I open it even a tiny bit (the guide suggests 2 full turns) it starts leaking. At the suggested 2 turns, I might as well just disconnect the fuel line its coming out so fast.

When it is in tightly, the quad runs pretty good. When I open it even the smallest amount before it starts to leak it will eventually vibrate itself entirely open.

So should I just leave it closed and adjust the idle with the screw with the spring?

Is the bolt with the blue markings the air/fuel ratio screw?

My quad has a tag that says to only use 92+ octane gas. I had been running 87 in it before I saw it.

I went and got 92 octane gas and it runs worse. No adjustment on the carb improved it. Using the lower octane gas got it running good again.

What is the general consensus of what octane gas to run through these?
