Hmmm that's a new one. A spark is a spark. The only real difference in the 2 types is when the intake and exhaust valves open. Other than a oil mix. They may run a hotter blug to ignite the mixture

The only way I could get mine clean was a actual pin I stole from the gf sewing set. It was like concrete in their. Then used a small screwdriver and a mechanics pic to scrape the crud off the outside. The last time I cleaned the carb after the first several failed attempts took me about 2 hours.

Wow - the pin worked along with some soaking and tapping! Jet is open. I put her back on and she still sounds like this video

Spark? Starter? Air leak at the O rings?

Haha sounds like the one iv been working on. Low battery was my issue. I ended up just using a car battery while I was working on it then when I got it running I switched back. Pull your starter apart and clean see if it helps. Could also be the starter solenoid dying on u try a screwdriver across the terminals

Only difference in sound from yours and mine when I started is it would randomly get a snap snap sound when starting. Now it just does it all the time but could not find anything broken.

Fwooley the motor sounds good. I also use the bread ties to clean jets.
sounds like the carb is fine now..just the cranking issue. As Zrock pointed out could be one of those items...
Great!

She just started again but idles ridiculously high! I adjusted my idle/throttle screw down a bit (I couldn't too much or she wanted to stall) and took her around the corner. I can't reach the fuel/ air screw at the moment. The starter is in the way. I'll try to buy something that will fit in that little one inch area lol.

I haven't put a new spark plug in yet and I think my head gasket was/is leaking because oil is burning off around it. I torqued down on the bolts and wiped as much oil as I could off so we'll see how that works out.

Almost there I think!

Oh and I noticed my chain is loose... how do I tighten that up?

Thanks guys and have a good one.

Was reading over all of this and searching about slow starting issues... my wires that hook to my batteries get REAL warm while I am trying to start it. Ive been jumping it off of my lawn tractor and sometimes my car. Could that just be the extra amps from the bigger batteries or do I have a wiring issue like a short or bad ground and how would I test?

Hey Fwoolley you are getting close. Since I'm new to Chinese ATVing I always thought that the ground wire was rather thin as well as the main power. My battery and wires get hot from cranking the engine. Start with n Ohmeter with the battery disconnected and test the ground wire..even if it reads 0 ohms the ohmmeter doesn't put out a lot of current..and the wires doesn't seem like it can handle a lot of current. I would replace the ground with a larger wire and whatever is at the end of ground be it the frame I would ensure the contacts are cleaned..
The connectors also I would check..for loose wires and pins not being flushed at the connectors..
One of the issues I found on the ATV I purchased is that the previous owner tie strapped the wires to the frame which is ok as long as it doesn't strain any wires...Unfortunately it was straining the wires.
If your idle is going up and down I would still check for airleaks in the carb to intake and intake to cylinder, by spraying carb cleaner and see if it affects the idle.

One thing I have also noticed on these Chinese things is the use a extremely poor cold solder to join wires. I moved and tugged on a few of my positive leads and the solder joint broke right at the lugs. So I went through the whole system and found several that way. If u have it running take it for a good run and get everything good and hot. A good run may eliminate some problems and clean things out.

Sorry for posting again. This goofy app this board uses does not slow u to save your reply and go read post again

For adjusting the carb I use one of those cheep $4 adjustable screw driver extensions. Works great
