Default TaoTao 135D re-gear (new sprocket set)!

Ok, so we are less than satisfied with my nephews 135D atv's acceleration! Turns out a lot of people are, I did a search on the forum and found this:
http://forums.atvconnection.com/chin...d-power-2.html

After reading through it I decided we will change the sprockets out from the factory (should be a 38 rear and 14 front) to a 42 rear and 12 front. Already found them on ebay for like $35 for the pair.

Only issue is, does anyone know a way to find out what chain these have on them? I googled it and it only pops up places to order it with no part numbers or sizes, I need to know what size. I will measure how long of a piece I need, but I need to know what size to get.

I will post results as the upgrade progresses. Maybe I will get my nephew to do a couple of tests so we can compare the before and after.

I will make him do a acceleration test starting from 0mph and from about 5mph and let him accelerate over 20', 50', and 100' and time all 3. Thus way we can really see the gain!

Nevermind! The sprockets tell me what size chain they require! I am struggling finding a small and big sprocket that use the same chain! Some use 420 chain, 428 chain, 520 chain and 530 chain.... Gonna have to keep looking!

u can use a 420 and 428 together. With some mods to the 428. You just have to grind down the width of the teeth on the 428 so the chain will fit on it. I ran into the same issue and did not want to wait another month for the exchange and new parts.

Most of the 110cc and 125cc units use a 420 chain. Some a #40 and some a 428. Some chains are marked on the sides.

I had a ton of problems with chains until I went to the 428H it will work on anything that takes a 428 it's much heavier duty imo. I also dropped from a 15 to a 13 in the front and left the rear alone it made a world of difference and I didn't sacrifice to much top end. Changing them both is a very big change actually.
