Hey all,
I literally just bought this Tao Tao 125 and my daughter has ridden about 3 times for about 10 minutes each time. Every time it would die and not start again for a while. Now it wont start at all. So the first thing I did was call the place I got it from and he said it sounds like a carb issue. I can bring it in at $40/ hour for him to diagnose it and then order a carb...blah blah..blah. He said it sounded like a carb issue so I ordered a new carb off Amazon. I ordered the Pz20 and put it on and it still will not start. Sounds like it wants to but it also sounds like it is backfiring. I have already checked all the switches and stuff to make sure it was getting fire. Even removed the plug and cranked it to see that it was getting spark. What else can I do??? Im at wits end. Paid almost $800 for this for my daughters birthday and she has less than a full hour ride time on it! Very disappointed and heartbroken father right now! Please help!!!!

Do you have spark?

 

Looks new, was this a new or used purchase? Always have spare plugs on hand for troubleshooting. Make sure the maintenance stuff is good, oils, etc. Verify all the rubber is good and not cracked causing vac leaks. Verify fuel flow to carb and in carb. New carbs don't just work too, you'll have to fiddle with the fuel screw and that's if the jets are correct.

 

Did you drain the shipping oil out of it and replace with proper oil? If it still had shipping oil in it it was probably overheating after 10 min hence why it would shut down and be a hard start. Now since it wont start you possibly could have cooked the rings in the motor giving it low compression and no start. Do a compression check on it.
