Default Smc Ram R100 Electrical issue

Hi

Ive replaced the cdi unit on my smc ram r 100 quad bike as it was faulty and I had no spark.

If have a good spark now and the quad runs well. Apart from two small problems.

I have a start button also red rocker and in the middle a safty tether which you pull out if you fall off.

There are 4 wires on the switch blue and white black and white and two solid blacks. On the quad loom i have blue white, black white and solid blacks. I have to hold in the pin on the tether ( tether cord wasn't with it) to kill the engine which seems backwards to me.

Second issue is it makes a noise when it tries to start. similar to when you crank a car and leave it cranking while engine is on sound.

stripped the motor all is ok also the starter and that's fine to any ideas

cheer's guys

Starter clutch is your noise during starting.

Maybe the PO wired it up backwards since they didn't have the tether anymore? Just a guess.

There are different CDIs, some work by killing the spark when the "kill wire" is earthed, some by killing the spark when the kill wire is not earthed.

Tether on the switch? Never seen that before as they are normally on the rear of the bike so if your kid gets too far from you, it will kill it. This set up is only if your kid flies off the quad. Can't you just get a normal kill switch and wire it in?

Yeah could do I guess. But wanted to try get all the original stuff working. The switch works just that you push and hold it in to kill it.
