I have an old 6X4 Gator that has been sitting awhile. I put a new battery in but still had problems. Then I put in a new fuel pump and was able to start it. However, the fuel pump appeared to continue to try to pump even when I turned the machine off (you could hear it and see fuel pushing into the bulb). Then it sat for several weeks and I could not start it. It would click and you could feel it in the solenoid, but would not turn the starter. So I replaced the solenoid. Now, it is sparking when I try to reconnect the battery and the starter starts to engage as soon as I touch the battery cable to the post (the key is in the off position and the starter button is not pushed). So it appears to be a problem with the ignition system. The system seems to be shorting out. Has anyone else experienced this?
