Kazuma Meerkat 50 valve spring orientation?
#1
48cc Honda clone type engine, on Kazuma Meerkat. I have the head off and in bits after regrinding the valves. Despite labelling everything very carefully and organising in little tubs on disassembly, I never noted which way up the valve springs go :-(
Now, looking at them, I can see they have their coils wound more tightly at one end. Each valve has an inner and an outer spring, both have these tighter coils at one end.
From reading around I understand on most engines, you install the springs with the tighter coils down toward the cylinder head. I've read this is so that the moving end of the spring is the end with less mass.
Just wanted to check this is correct for the Meerkat 48cc engine..?

I thought someone who actually knows may have come in here but, as they haven't. I would stick the springs in tighter coils down. The reason for the coils differing is to prevent valve bounce at high revs, and as I hope you will never be revving it anywhere near high enough for valve bounce, which way up should not matter.
