Default 110cc Won’t start. Shorted?

Hi all,

Picked up a 110cc Chinese atv that had been sitting for a year. Replaced all things electronic (harness, starter, cdi, starting solenoid, etc) and I still press the start button and it turns over once every 10-20 seconds. Engine is not seized. When the wire from the starting solenoid is not connected to the starter, I see the 12v appear when hitting the start button, but as soon as I connect a wire from starter solenoid to starter I only see 2-3volts. If I have everything hooked up but the spark plug out, it turns over like normal and makes spark. My only thought is that it could be a grounding issue but I have the new ground going directly to the stator case and I tried grounding to a bolt on the starter with the same issue. I’m at a loss and I was hoping to get this thing running for King of Hammers next week. Thanks for any ideas!

Battery flat or had it. Other possibility is terminals not tight enough.

Somehow it ended up being the spark plug. I can’t quite explain why but tossed a new plug in and now it turns over as expected!

So, it actually runs? I'm in a similar boat to you. Mine was running and I changed the plug just doing some maintenance after I bought it. When it died and wouldn't start back, I got no spark. Have changed all kinds of crap but the plug.

Just wanted to see how yours was doing now and should I try the same.

yep it runs now! I was getting spark when grounding it to the case though, it just didn’t consistently run the start while I held the start button. For yours I would just check the two wires coming out of the ignition coil where they connect to your harness. If that all looks good and is getting voltage than you can assume it’s either the ignition coil/spark plug wire or just the spark plug.
