I was looking into the TaoTao 250-D Utility ATV and think it will be a good fit however I keep seeing 150cc ATV's with similar physical size and generally larger rims (150cc at 10 inch vs 250cc at 8 inch). The usage is on our wooded property with a couple 50 foot hills.

One other poster said that the 150cc was just as powerful if not better than the 250cc. I don't really care about manual vs automatic...however what are your thoughts on reliability of manual vs automatic?

 

I've read that the automatics can have trouble on inclines. I considered the two machines you are looking at but ended up with a 97 Honda Fourtrax 300 4x4 for about the same money. I'm very happy with my Honda. The 4x4 is great and for where you will be using it could be beneficial.

Ive got a 200, a 250 and 2 150's.. the 200 and the 250 will walk away from the 150's easily in a drag race...and just about any other place but where clutch use is needed... then the 150 shines with its CVT tranny... nothing to think about.. just hit the gas..all kinds of people have ridden my 150's.. Even my 70+ yr old mom has ridden my Jetmoto 150 on the beach at Pismo... no way she would even consider the 200 or 250...

As far as reliability... they are all the same from my experience...but there is more to go wrong on my 200/250..

I decided to take some of the common advice surrounding the Chinese ATV's and NOT buy one. I decided since the ATV will not be used for trail riding and maybe 30 days a year? That I couldn't even justify the $1300.

So I now own a unknown year (96?) Kawasaki Bayou 220 :-)

Its got a few issues (sticky front brakes and the pull start doesn't work) but I don't expect either to take a ton of time. For $550 can't complain.

I may venture down the Chinese ATV route again...just not this year :-)

 

Good for you... the 15 yr old Japanese quad will need less of your time than a new Chinese quad..

And you should be able to sell it for $550 in 5 years..(if you want to)
