Default Altitude

I’m new to the atv game and I am looking to buy a side by side for hunting. I have been thinking about buying off eBay but then got thinking about whether or not altitude comes into play on the performance of the engine if I bought one for back east where they are basically at sea level compared to out here in Wyoming where we are at 5000+ feet. Just curious if anyone knows whether or not this is an issue with ATVs like it is vehicles and if it’s a pricey adventure to get it tuned to the elevation change? Thanks guys

Efi isn't a problem as it compensates for the altitude, temperature and supplies fuel accordingly to the injectors. Carbs are a different matter. Most local dealers could jet one for you for that area. Plus most manuals have a jetting compensation chart for temp and altitude like this one on a snowmobile.

So purchasing at a different elevation isn’t a huge deal and can be adjusted for fairly cheap?

If you buy a carb side x side usually no problem in doing this. Your area dealer can help with that or if so inclined you can do it yourself. We changed jetting for people going on vacation in northern states and changed them back again when they returned. If you buy an efi model,no worries, just drive it and have a good time.
