Default Please help wiring harness

Hello all I've bought a new wiring harness for my son's Chinese ATV 125cc and trying to hook everything up and I came across this after taking of the stator and there is not a plug on the new wiring harness for this to make a connection and I'm curious what it even is and if its important also could I just leave it unplugged and continue with wiring the rest of the ATV and it not cause any issues? TIA.👍

That is a gear position switch. If the new harness doesn't have matching wires the neutral and reverse indicators won't work.

You think the ATV will still start without it? Trying to decide to continue replacing or trying to find another wiring harness

The original harness will probably have had a lock-out system so the bike will only start in neutral. However, if the new harness has starter motor/solenoid wiring built in, it will have bypassed this.

I am not a fan of universal wiring looms, if you have the skill to fit one, you probably have the skill to have mended the old harness.

Default Sorry for hi-jacking post!!

Merryman, I have the same issue with a Jianshe JS250 replacement loom but the gear position sensor fits on a different plug. The one pictured is on the original loom connected to a 6 pin fuel cut off relay. There is an additional wire on the new loom which connects to the starter solenoid. Does this mean that the quad will run without the cut off relay fitted? I cannot find a decent wiring diagram for the quad and all the ones I have found show different wiring colours!!
cheers, crofter

Sorry can't help, except I've never known an electrical "fuel cut off" on a carburettor quad. I usually go to ManualsLib for manuals and wiring diagrams but though they list a Jianshe JS250 manual, it won't display properly on my PC. Chinese makers don't always use the wiring colours the diagram says, but if it starts and ends in the right place on the bike, it doesn't matter if it isn't the same colour as the drawing.

Thanks merryman, yes, that was what confused me too. My Honda trx350 had one but it also had a fuel pump!! I think the previous owner has grafted in a loom from another machine.so I will just keep at it and post results on my own thread (JS250 Project)

sorry again for hi-jacking, cheers crofter
