Another plea for wiring loom issues!! Help!!!
#11
Forget my last post, I would have to use the horn as a starter switch but would have no run/ stop switch. I have power to brown, solid green and blue wires and the pink is live when the horn button is pressed, but nothing to the black or black/white on the stop button. There is continuity on black and black/white back to the loom connector so I don't think there's any point in replacing the switch unit. No power to either of those from either the loom or the instrument panel. The neutral light is on and I earthed the green/yellow to the frame but still nothing!!

Just possible the switch unit was made for a negative side start button. If so that yellow/red will be earthed when you press the start button and the green/yellow would need to be fed pos from ignition switch. Check if the black at the switch is actually an earth. If the green/yellow was supposed to be connected to the brake light pos wire, solenoid would only work when the brake and ign is on, acting as a lock-out.

Thanks Merryman. I couldn't get power to either side and ran out of patience as I have a couple of tractors to rebuild so I took off the new loom. I have replaced the damaged wires on the old one and spliced a new wire with the brown feed from the lights to give me a live and made a fused trigger wire. I would have done that in the first place but the seller assured me that the new loom was a plug and play!! Oh well, lesson learned I suppose. Thank you again for all your help, it is very much appreciated.

Yes, as a check of my previous posts on the subject of "new universal looms" would show. I find that anyone who has the electrical knowledge to fit a new loom, could have mended the old one, with less bother. Unless it has been badly hacked about or on fire.

Yes, you are absolutely right. The problem I had was that half the loom had been burnt and the battery was so swollen I don't know how it didn't burst!! The loom and a few of the accessories came in a box and I had no idea about gear position sensors etc, etc or where they should go as I have a TRX350 and an Eton CXL150 which are a doddle to work on. However, I've taken it completely apart, stripped the awful matt black "respray" off the plastics and rebuilt the engine so am currently in the middle of putting the rest back together so, fingers crossed, I should have a good quad at the end of it!!
