Chevy Tranny
#1
OK I got a B&M shift kit and my question is... The shift kit has 2 stages, Stage 1 is the RV/ Towing stage and stage 2 is the Street/Strip. This truck will not be a daily driver but never raced, just a cruise around burnouts and maybe race my buddys. Do I want to go with stage 1 or 2, I'm scared the RV/Towing won't give me enough slam to break the tires loose, but I am also thinking the street/strip will be too much. If anyone has experienced with shift kits let me know please. Thanks
OH yeah: '69 Chevy C10 327SB, 9:1's, Summit cam 488:508 lift, Weiand Xcellerator intake, Edelbrock 650 carb, Headman headers, flowmaster mufflers all they way to 5" duals.
The tranny is a TH350 auto

go with the stage 2. the stage 1 won't allow for much tire spin where the 2 will. stage 1 is to alllow for longer range in low gears while 2 will allow for the slam with a quick shift to get you out quick.

You should have enough torque/power in the motor to fire both tires and just sit in a nice burn-out forever in that truck no matter which one...if its not a daily driver go with the tranny snapping setting

Yeah it will easily sit there and burn the tires all day, I want to be able to burn them on the power when it hits second gear, or atlease get a scratch. Yeah I think the stage 2 is the one, I just pulled the pan and it was hell I soaked myself in tranny oil.

I put a level 10 shift kit in my Grand Cherokee V-8. I put installed a magnetic drain plug in the pan while I had it off. You should too. Makes tranny fluid changes cleaner.
BTW I had Hurst line lock on my 5.0 While it was a 5 speed & yours is an auto it is much easier to use roll control/line locks & will save your rear brakes alot of wear & tear.
Do you have a good torque converter or did you do the old Vega trick.... which actually does work.
ps> I have a 69 too. A 1969 IH 3/4 ton 4X4. 345V-8. Edelbrock 4bbl, dual exhaust, Schneider cam, T-18 tranny with a 6.3 to 1 first gear, auto hubs, 4:10 gears, 33X12.5X16.5 mud tires & a PTO shaft too
International... 13 letter poop spreader
IH, everything else is just a car.

The 327 in my truck was origionaly from a '68 Camaro that one of my dads buddys bought new then he totaled it and some how my dad ended up with the motor. 275HP they ran stock and I don't know torque #'s, This motor sat for years and finally I decided to rebuild it and put it in somthing. I bored it 0.030 over and put Kieth Black 9:1 pistons, valve job, all new bearings, and I forget some other stuff. Yeah I have a fairly good toque converter it's a TCI 2,000 RPM. I figured if I wanted a "cam" I need the converter to.
Update: Just finished pulling the pan and fliter plate. I have oil all over the shop floor, I pushed it outside and cleaned up. I think the worst part it over, now I'm ready to install the shift kit.. I will get it in tomorrow, I get out of school at 11:30. Thanks guys Stage 2 it is

Better wear a hat to cushion the blow of your head bouncing off the rear window after the 1 to 2 shift.
you gonna lower the truck & put some 17 or 18 inch rims on it? That would look cool. Your young you have lots of time to make that money for upgrades.
Even with my IH's mods, it still sounds just like a school bus.....
