Wolverine Tires
#1
Can anyone recommend a set of tires for a Wolverine. Terrain is rocky, yet muddy. In Pennsylvania. I am thinking about the ITP mud-lite but get mixed reviews vs. The ITP holeshots. I don't want a terrible ride, but want the protection in the woods. Can anyone help? Sick and tired of fix a flat!

I had the same problem on my Wolvy. The stock tires are only 2 ply and prone to punctures. I bought a set of 489 X/T's for the back from Dennis Kirk for 62 each (no shipping if order is over $100). They are 6 ply with an agressive tread. I got a pair of regular 489's for the front off of E-bay for $40 for the pair. They are 4 ply and are blems (cosmetically flawed, but you can't tell when covered in mud). This combo works great for me in the mountains and mud of central PA, and I have less than $200 in the complete setup. Out of all the places I checked, the 489s were the only replacement tire in the stock sizes I could find.

I run the 489XT's as well, but in the 24" size. I wanted a bit more GC, without becoming tippy. I ride the Pa rocks as well, and the 6 ply rating was important to me.
If you compare tread patterns between the XT's and the mudlites, you will see that they are remarkably similar. The Mudlites are good tires, too, I don't think you can go wrong with them either

Just purchased new rims and tires. 25 inch, ITP Mudlites and C-Series Aluminum. Sure Looks Good. Weight on front rims is 20 lbs each, rear around 27 lbs each. Will be doing some upgrading with exhaust and air. Will post the power results.
