Default How can u tell if belt is slipping?

Sorry if it sounds like a dumb ?, but my buddies Trailblazer seems like its losing power somewhere. It doesn't seem as fast on top end as it was and when he's trying to crawl over a steep bank, you hear the motor trying to pull but the wheels won't spin...........Is this normal? We don't smell rubber burning or anything. He hasn't changed the spark plug yet and he's been riding it pretty hard lately but the motor still runs smooth so he thought it might be the belt slipping or something........????????

sounds like you've got a bad belt. the belts are cheap & easy to replace though. there could also be clutch problems, but chances are it's just a belt.

Sounds like a worn belt. As the belt wears narrower it rides lower in the chivs hence lower gearing and lower speed.
