Ok, here is the situation. I have some friends that have 400ex's. They have each about $1500 each in their bikes. Now this includes wheels, port and polish job, white brothers all around cam, high compression 10-5.1 piston, one has the alien ware set up exhaust and the other a pro-circuit. Of course jetted and a KNN.
Now, their opinion is this. If they win in a race I should be looked down upon because I have 250cc more than they do. REGARDLESS of me being bone stock. If I win, it is because I have the extra 250cc on them.??? is this bullcrap?? or am i just dumb?? Now I know that I still have a bigger and faster bike, but changing out cams and pistons and stuff like that makes the bike a total different animal!!

What do you all think?

Higher compression piston (11:1 = pump gas) will give overall power. A Cam won't help you for what you do (it will make it more like a two-stroke.)
Let your buddies give you a hard time over how big the DS is then romp on them. At the end of the day ask if they want to go tomorrow too and they will be too sore, you will be hungry for a nice dinner and ready to ride again the next day. Might as well race them for dinner so you can start eating for free!

Man that is bs. I hate it when someone races you or asks for a race and then they make the excuse of well your ride has a bigger motor is the only reason you won. Well no shiii@ thats why I bought it to begin with because it is powerful. If they do got a ton of money in their quad and beat you then you get man my bike is 200cc's less and I beat your a@@. So you can't really win either way but you have the satisfaction of knowing your bike is faster or capable of being faster than theirs will ever be. I mean if you go around just racing like 250ex's or utility quads or something and you pick them out thats different but if someone pulls up to you and wants to drag then hey he's getting whats coming to him. I know you probably just love what you ride and could care less what people say. That's me, I don't go try to race every bike slower than me I see but if they want to give it a go I'll smoke them if I can. Same for larger quads if someone with a raptor or ds or something comes up to me and wants to go I'll line up and take my spanking like a man. I won't say well you just beat me because you have a 660 or 650 or whatever. Well good luck if you guys race, and God bless.

I'd have to agree with mudslinger, & add another thought: while your DS is bone stock or close to it, you've got a LOT more reliability than their machines. I've heard several people with modded bikes at one point when their mods aren't working up to par. admire a stock machine since it almost ALWAYS works. I'm glad I've got two DSs so if I decide to change one I've still got an extra.

Well I did run both of them last night at the rodeo, and lost to one of them. I beat the guy who I was wanting to beat, but both of them had the exact same set up. So it was more or less my fault for having a crappy start. But my opinion sits the same as ya'lls. I raced the guy before the set up and after. 400 or not, that extra 1000 bucks makes one heck of a difference. But like I have said. I know I can beat them, it was just their thinking behind the winning or losing that i did not agree with.

I run into the same thing. I modified mine and now I beat them so bad they wont race me anymore and I dont have to hear it. They just say man thats fast. Just remember theres always a faster bike.

thats why I hate drag racing there's always an excuse, oh I had a bad start, or I missed a gear, dont forget your bike has a bigger motor. you never hear your really fast just BS. spank there a$$ down some trails and then see if they have an excuse?

This is what I think about....... Ok someone has a smaller cc motor (400), another has a bigger cc motor(650). The guy with the smaller cc motor puts $1500 bucks in his motor to make it faster........... Now where is $1500 gonna leave you with the BIG cc motor compared to the smaller motor???? Nuf said!!!

I have the same delima with 400ex, z 400 and predator and cry baby raptors. the prdator is stock and basically tapped out as for modifications, I beat all these quads and have minimal mods. I get the same complaint but I weight 275 pounds. which is a hundred pounds more than the average rider and the ds is a hundred pounds more than the average bike. So what gives. Whip their little a**es until they run home and get under the porch!!!
