How do you tell the grind of a camshaft
#1
I had a camshaft put in my Honda 400ex, by a builder. I am done with him, and he lies, I believe it is a Hot Cam, not even positive about that though, but I am rebuilding it now, and I am tring to figure out what it is. Any tips? Can you measure it? Does anybody have the numbers form Hot Cams for satge I or II, or even a Megacycle, or Web?
Thanks in advance....

If you have the cam out of the engine, you can take a caliper and measure the lobe base, then the lobe base to tip of lobe lift, subtract the difference (for lift at cam), then multiply that by the rocker arm ratio. That will give you lift-at-valve which is what the cam spec would advertise. You can't tell duration this way but can probably ID the cam though.

Thanks chicneater and Shady. I got out my calipers, measured the thing up, figured rocker arm ratios, ect. got on the phone w/ hot cams, they asked me what the number in the bottom was and they told me it was a stage two in 2 seconds, lol.
Thanks again
