P650 K-EBC Actuator Failures
#1
My 650 is now a little over 2 years old and I have ridden it some 3500 miles. I have now had my fourth K-EBC actuator failure. The last one has lasted about 10 miles of riding. Failure is indicated when the 2WD and 4-WD indicator in the instrument panel continuously flashes between the two modes and you don't hear the characteristic growl when you turn the ignition switch off. The first two failures occured while I still had the K-EBC actuator lever installed and the last two have been since I have removed the actuator lever. 2WD and 4WD work normally. My dealer tells me that I am the only one of his customers that is having this problem. Fortunately, I have the extended warranty, so I have not had to pay for the replacements.
I would like to hear from any of you that may have experienced actuator failure and any words of wisdom you may be willing to share with me.
Thanks

I had my actuator motor fail after I submerged my 2003 with about 450 miles on it. Corrosion was inside the motor housing, I cleaned up the motor shaft and armature and all is well. I also cleaned the levers inside the clutch cover and re-greased and so far it is working well. I had a post about a month ago titled 2wd and 4wd lights flashing if you want to read the whole story. I think the acutator motor is not sealed well and is also weak.

Tonerpuke,
Thanks for the comeback. I have never had my P650 in water much above the footboards. I had hoped that I would get several replies but guess no one else is having actuator problems like I am.
I read your bio and we too motorhome and ATV together. We have gone to Richfield for the Rocky Mountain ATV Jamboree for the last four years and are going again this year. You ought to come down for that. It is loads of fun along with the riding. We have also done some riding in the Moab area. We winter near Quartzsite, AZ, where there is many thousands of acres of BLM lands and is a great place to ride. Don't encounter much water there. We usually go over to Glamis for a few days while we are out there. We also ride in Arkansas, Colorado and Oklahoma. Not much good riding here in Texas. I define good riding as thousands of acres where you can ride all day without ever retracing anything and you have some challenge along the way as well as easy enjoyable sight-seeing. BTW, I am retired and 70 years young!!!!!
