Sorry for the lame question, but... What oil does everyone use for their 700? I'm not too knowledgable when it comes to this kind of crap, that's why I'm in the IT business =] I figure it'd be alot cheaper to do it myself than pay the 40-50 bucks that the dealer is wanting. I looked in the owners manual and didn't really see if it said it needs full synthetic or not, or is it a synthetic mixture? How often do you change it? I think I read 30hrs or so somewhere, that seems like a bit of time for a change...?

 

I have a prairie 650 and I use Mobile 1 20W-50 V-Twin oil and have not had any problems. In fact I still have not adjusted my valves at 3400 miles.

 

oh ya, anyplace online that sells oil filters? i've checked rockymountain but didnt see any, unless i'm missing them...

 

I AM RUNNING THE KLOTZ MX4 15W-50 IT'S A FULL SYNTHETIC. IT'S THE BEST OIL I'VE EVER RUN IN MY PRAIRIE. I SELLS FOR ABOUT $8.50 A QUART, BUT I THINK IT IS WORTH IT... I WOULD ALSO RECOMMED RUNNING EITHER ENGINE ICE OR WATER WETTER AS A COOLANT....HOPE THIS HELPS...

 

I belive the prarie 650(2003) uses the same filter.

 

The prairie 650 02 & 03 and the 700 prairie have the same oil filters.....

I used Valvoline ATV Blend 10-40. Go it at the local auto parts dealer, I think it was 3-4 dollars/qt.
It met all of the specs in the manual for the KFX700. The oil change is pretty easy, just make sure you grab the washer off the drain plug to stick back on there.

 

I use 10W40 Royal Purple Synthetic Oil. I ordered it thru my Auto Parts Dealer. I was told it would increase Hp and after a few days of use I could tell a samll increase.

 

You might wanna try yama lube. Atleast the oil in your machine will be realiable!
