Scrambler 4x4 switch not working
#1
I own a '98 400 Scrambler 4x4. The 4x4 switch was working intermittently, but now it does not work at all. I checked the switch itself along with some wiring, but I'm at a loss as to what to do next. Does anyone have any ideas??
Thanks in advance

I had a similar problem with my 96 Xplorer 400. I dismantled the button (no big deal) cleaned up the contacts and put it back together. That worked for a while until the problem came up again.
I was at a loss so I brought her to the dealer who replaced the switch in the gear selector. It looked similar to a toggle switch with a bunch of wires that attached to the circuit board.
I was alos told that it may also be a cracked wire that runs to the magnets in the front wheel.
Hope this helps.

Roder,
Put the shifter in Forward, turn the key on, at this point, the reverse light and neutral light should NOT be on...
Naw.. take a meter and check for voltage going INTO the AWD switch.... If you have power there, make sure you have power going OUT of the AWD switch...
I started having problems out of my 97 Scrambler 500 about a year ago.... I got fed up with it, and rewired part of it so that the OVERRIDE button is completely bypassed and the Reverse Rev-Limiter is bypassed.
Now, when you go to reverse, it has full power, and if the AWD switch it engaged, you have AWD...
The older style button you have is like the one on my 97, they are prone to corrosion and failure.. Disassemble it and clean it with contact cleaner and a SMALL fine file or emory cloth..
Good Luck..
