Who will be the first to reach the 100MPH mark on the DS650? In the May 1999 issue of Motorcycle Consumer News, they tested the RW stage II kit on the BMW F650. It ran a 12.99 sec 1/4 mile @ 98.3mph and went 0-60mph in 4.62 sec. and they later found out that the valves were set too tight, lowering the HP.

My stock Banshee will run 80, and the DS650 is supposed to have more top end speed, with some motor work and gearing changes, 100 mph would be realistic. Please, no atv magazine quotes on speed, if you have a number on speed, it should be from testing!

The ground your running on is an extreme factor. My LT250R, with factory tires and only a pipe/silencer combo installed, would do about 65-ish on your average loose dirt road. However, at the El Mirage dry lakebed, I hit 78.8 MPH, on very dry, hardpacked dirt. So if you have a dry lakebed somewhere near you, who knows, maybe your DS650 will do over 100 MPH on its own. I clocked my speeds with a Garmin GPS12, which I've had for a while, and I've tested it against server automobile speedometers etc, and thus far it's been extremely accurate in 2-dimensional movement. However, I think they need to work on how these things calculate elevation. While it will give you the correct elevation, they sometimes go a little wild. If you give it a little time you'll see the correct elevation.

The DS650 doesn't go 100mph. Not close. The Banshee supposedly goes just under 70 stock. This is according to the magazines, but they have no reason to lie. Top speeds...

DS650 : mid to lower 70's
Banshee : high 60's
400EX : mid 60's

Did he say stock? I don't think he did.

He is talking about a modified DS being the first to reach 100mph. The only way a stock one will exceed 100mph will be if you drop it off a very tall cliff/building or out of an airplane.

Put a turbocharger or modify the engine with a stroker kit, nitrous or any number of the other performance enhancements, then it shouldn't be a problem. I have seen LT500's with Suzuki GSXR 1100's punched out to 1300cc running nitrous doing 130mph at Florence, Oregon, kicking up a rooster tail like an unlimited Hydroplane!

Hey Scoob, that doesn't sound very good at all, since the stock BMW Funduro does 119mph 11? second 1/4 miles in stock form according to the Cruiser magazine that I read. It beats out the Honda 1100 cruisers! Sounds like the Ron Wood kit was a de-formance kit!

CRTLeech, I seriously doubt that Motorcycle Consumer News rev'd the crap out of the bike during the testing. They said prior to the mods it ran a 13.76 sec quarter mile @90mph and a 0-60 time of 5.22 sec.

My bad! I retract the statement about the speed in the 1/4 for the Funduro. I received wrong second hand information. The actual speed listed is 91mph in the 1/4 mile. Sorry for the mis-information. My dad is getting old I guess :-)

He must have suffered from a temporary alzheimers/dislexia combination.

I should've checked it out myself I guess before quoting it.

Even so, it still does beat out the 1100 cruiser from Honda by 1mph in the 1/4 mile. So, the Ron Wood kit would seem to be about a 9% increase in mph in a 1/4 mile.

Sorry,

Ride---Just an FYI---The magazines change their numbers every article, it's never consistent, ever...
