DS650......Awsome Looking Machine
#1
Well I finally got brave and went to the dealership and took a look. Quite an impressive looking machine. Now I just got to round up the $7500 to get one. Hows that price sound to you that have already bought? They said roughly $6999 & $499 for freight, that seemed like a lot for freight. What part of Canada are these made in?

The first time I saw the DS I knew that I had to have one. They are one of the best looking machines that I have ever seen stock. The price is a little high in Ut the dealers are selling them for 6700 and no "freight" costs. I paid 7000 OTD for mine. I think that I got a pretty good deal. good luck....

It's about the same here in WA. When it comes to freight, setup and all of those charges, it's pretty much a cushion the dealer has to work with to get some additional profit. If you talk them out of it, they still make money. ATV's and motorcycles have about the highest profit margin there is out there for consumer products. It's borderline illegal, since it is basically price fixing. Wherever you go, the price for a particular model is the same as the MSRP, usually. You don't see this for cars, so it's basically a price agreement with all of the Motorcycle dealers.
If the DS's are going out of that particular dealer really fast and they can't keep enough in stock, then you might not be able to talk them down. It's basically the old motto "Cash talks, BS walks". If you have the money and interest, then the dealer should work with you. You should technically be able to purchase any car for about 12-17% lower than asking price and still let the dealer make a good profit. ATV's and motorcycles, it will probably be similar. The only thing that we have paid freight on was the DS. This is out of over a dozen new bikes in the last 20 years. That was because they were selling like hotcakes when they came out and they still are. We didn't' pay the full prices they were asking for but we still paid some of the setup.
It's all a supply and demand thing. The supply of the DS's is going to be limited to 1500 for the first year, so they are probably getting few and far between now.
Go sit on one, see if you can test ride it in the parking lot and such. If you are serious and have the money, you should be able to get it for less than $7500 plus tax. I would try for $200 on the setup fees. See if there are any other dealers with some in stock, that will help you bargain with either one.
Above all else, make sure you get a dealer that knows about the recall and other notices and that will make sure your ride is up to spec. Sometimes it's worth more paying a higher price to have access to competent mechanics for warranty work. See if you can contact other DS purchasers from that dealer and ask how good they have been treated.
Good luck,

Valcourt Quebec, the home of Bombardier is about an hour east of Montreal.
Our dollar is way down in relation to yours so, yes, it may be very advantageous to pop across the border and pick one up. Anyone know what they would hit you with at the border in terms of duty, taxes etc?
The dealers in Ontario will charge 15% tax but it may be refundable since you are from out of province.

There are no taxes or fees at the border because the bike exceeds their $400 limit it's considered import exempt.
The dealer didn't charge me tax because it's just more paperwork for them. Since the bike is being exported out of the country all you need to do is fax them the stamped papers from the US side and your fine.

The price thing, they will take MSRP if you have the power to buy it then and there, I paid 7000 no freight or delivery, just MSRP. YEah it is price fixing. They make about 1500 on each bike just by getting MSRP. That is what a guy working for a dealer told me.
