720 advice what do I need to look out for?
#1
I want to put a 720 big bore kit in the next few weeks and was wanting some advice on who does the best work, what should I look out for, and peoples input on how they like, love or would not do the 720 kit. I am not going to do the head work right now it has been ported and polished already. I have the .425 cams. I want more power for climbing the hills but I do ride 3 or 4 times a week on the trails. I have talked to Gary at TVI and waiting for Sam co to get back with me. Can't do the Pami kit too much and out of the country. What do you guys think?

Don't wait for Sam to call you back. Stay away!!!!!!!!!
Either have Gary at TVI do it or buy the parts from him and have it installed locally. I had my bike done by Kenz Cycle Tech in Mesa

Samcoe is out of the question for anything other than parts until he proves himself.
You'll still have to send the head to gary @ TVI to machine the clearance for the piston.
keep frontend down - longer swingarm or less paddles.
FYI, you can make 70HP with 650cc, high compression such as 14:1 piston on alcohol with stock valves, advanced timing, carbs, cams.

Hey KM,
Kenz did all my work and will do the upgrade for me aswell. Did you have the 720 installed by Ken. I think my bike was there when yours was at the begining of the summer. What did you dyno on Kenz? I was at 47.5Hp with his stage 2

My +4 is on the way from Gary as I type. What do you think about tires. I have the extreme 10 paddle 20's and I don't like them was looking to go with the 8 paddle edge on a 22. I would really like to turn easier in the sand.

Yeah i think that I saw your bike there. My bike did right at 50 on his dyno. It was a very hot day though and I was only on pump gas and stock clutches. (excusses excusses) And I've since cleaned up my intake a little more, new clutch springs and put a new pipe on. I think that I'd come in around 52-54 now on race fuel.
No I don't have a 720, I will if I could ever talk the wife into it. So that's a never I have a stage 3 with dual carbs.
As far as tires go, I would suggest a 22x11x10 8 or 9 paddle extreme. I have the 9 paddles and think they're a little to much sometimes. However I have a +4 swing arm so the extra paddles helps considering less weight on the back. If you are going to drag it only I would get some tripple buffs. I think that the edges hurt in the drags more than they help in the turns. JMO

Well, someone has to play devil's advocate so here goes....I could not be happier or more satisfied with Sam Coe's work on my 720. I only sent him my jug to bore, sleeve & o-ring & had my local guy do the install. From what I hear it can be hit & miss with Sam's work, but I must have gotten a "hit" because I got an incredible deal (paid less than half what Gary charges) and have not had one single hint of gasket leakage. It may be a roll of the dice, but if you only send him your jug, you might be safe! Also, no issues clearance issues, perfect fit!

with my 720 i got a lot of stuff from gary, i got the 13.5 piston stay bolts, the the follow up service i've gotten has been to cool. i called samcoe about the honda i had done and i couldn't make anyything out on the sheet that he faxed me the prices were there but i couldn't tell what it all cost. the other thing with gary is you get a ds guy not a raptor guy honda guy suzuki guy you see what i'm thinking. does anyone know the knew mods gary is doing to the 720 cylinder? due to some nos issues on his bike he thought off a way to make his cylinder better. seems punisher and annilater did most of the research for samcoe, at there own expense, i won't even bring up azsand engine. well if samcoes 720 cylinder is truely cheaper, that's good because the only ones i've seen make those work are the guys that are great mechanics. i'm not i have to pay for my lessons usally in the form of broken parts, so if you want to be a mechanic try sam, i like to ride more. the 720 is a great engine for those of you interested, oh and those 425 cams are real good for what you want.

Sandman is right [bigslim] I have seen Sandmans run [which GARY built] and it was very, very impressive...I would spend the extra few $$ that Gary charges because you get what you pay for, he charges a little extra because he sells quality products that are built to last...Not only that, if sandman and i were to run duall carbs, more timing advance, [ just a littile more] tripple buffs front and back and alky, they would be SICK fast... And with all the mods you do to make it faster you WILL definiately need a quality built motor...I only use Sandman as a good benchmark because my DS and his were neck to neck at sand mountain [ he was even pulling me by a few feet] but i have fixed a few problems that i found with valves and timing, and neither of us had time to REALLY dial our bikes in...TRUST ME GUYS, you want to do this 720 kit solid, and the right way...Dont be fooled by wantabee mechanics that think they know how to build a motor...It has costed me about 5,000 to get my original 720 running reliable...and this is AFTER what i paid for the first 720 kit, did not do none of the work myself I paid mechanics alot in labor...save yourself from going crazy and do it right..Once again , good luck
