A moment of silence for my R
#1
Well after almost a good weekend of at Sandfest at Little Sahara, OK, my R locked up on me. Thinking it was just a simple main bearing out on it. I tore it down tonight, and after removing the counterbalancer, I discovered a few bearings lodged into the case. I guess this is going to take a few more paychecks than I had expected. I havent even split the case yet to see what else is gone, Im almost afraid to now.
Now for a moment of silence........................................... .................................................. ..............................
Where to go from here? I guess when I get through crying, and finish tearing down the rest of the engine to see what is salvagable, maybe I could just replace the cases, and a new counterbalancer(there are grooves in the shaft from the bearings, not a good thing). Hopefully that will be all I need to replace besides the bearings and rebuilding it. Any other ideas? I just dont know how long I can go without riding it though, Im glad winter will be here soon.
Maybe I could hold out and send to ESR, and let him build a 370 gas engine out of it. Who knows.

Do like I did, sell you engine parts on ebay and buy a new engine. I bought a nearly brand new motor for $825 including shipping, sold mine for $700.
When I got the new engine I didn't even start it I just took it apart and put a 310 kit on it. I turned around and sold the head and cylinder for another $160. So I almost got a brand new engine for free. I couldn't believe how clean the stator look when I took the cover off, I had never seen a new one.
I think it's the best way to go, if you are sure about the new engine you are buying. With a new engine you do't have to worry about this and that, it's like reset, new game.

Rob - Where did you get the new engine for $825, I would be interested in doing something like that. How does the 310 kit run? I have been looking at the 330 kit from ESR as well. I need to finish tearing it down to see what is reusable or to sell. Thanks for the input. I have been watching ebay alot here lately, alot of people are parting out their engines on there. Thanks for the input

I got it on ebay, right now I think there are like 3 new engines on there now.
As for the ESR 310, I love it. It packs quite a punch, my only complaint is that I go through tires really fast.
