Default Quest 650 Transmission problems?

All,

My mechanic friend is ripping apart a Quest 650 tranny at the moment, and wanted to know if there is any common problems with the transmissions.

I searched for a bit, and couldn't find a common thread on transmission failures.

Anyone have one fail? Are there any common problems with them?

Thanks,

RM

I have the same problem. They replaced my entire motor and tranny instead of fixing the problem. Now, i have a REALLY strange noise in neutral or high. Kind of a clatter. We are pretty sure it is going to die on us soon. Another motor is on the way soon, I hppe. We have ran it every weekend without any major issues, though.

What year is the Quest? there were some problems with early 2002's, but I would expect that they would have all come to light by now.

Mine is a 2002 as well... however it should have an 03 motor/tranny combo now. The first problem was that it would not park. The shifter was off by one. Now... noise, noise, noise. In low it doesn't have that problem but it does in neutral if you rev it up at all and in high.

so it makes noise in neutral and high, but not low?

Something in that new transmission must be out of adjustment - I would bring it back to your dealer and have them adjust the CVT. Good thing is that you can demonstrate the problem, so there shouldn't be much troubleshooting.

Yes - neutral and high but not low. We have been running it only in low for that reason. Don't want to blow it up.

They seem to just want to replace the motor. They don't have a lot of experience in the ATV dept yet. I will suggest that to them, though. I will be bringing it back tomorrow for the winch. We also seem to have several other problems... it stalls a lot after it is warmed up, today the odometer/speedometer quit working. It is backfiring on deceleration. I think they just need to tune it a bit and that will fix most of the troubles.
