Default LT80 doesn't like water

We have an 93 lt80. Ever since I bought it, whenever my son rides it in water or mud, Something gets wet and it will not run. We can let it sit for awhile and it will start up and seems ok. It runs great any other time, just not around water. Anyone have any Ideas?
Also I would like to know some clutch mods or other mods that would let it rip alittle better.

For LT80 mods, you may want to contact the following:

* Good for things you know will work with your package. For example, K&D Filters, etc.

Advise each Specialized Consultant / Sales Rep what types of riding you do, where you want more speed (re: low end, upper end, etc.) and they'll advise the correct combination of MODs. Based on your riding conditions, and if your machine has more then enough bottom end power, that extra bottom end power could be easily converted to more top end speed with a simple sprocket change. The experts in the above can provide you the experienced recommendations you are looking for....

Hope this helps...

Check the rubber grommet on top of the carb where the throttle cable goes in, if it is cracked, it may suck in water and make it die or run real bad, or your are splashing water on the plug or coil wire, which may have a bad boot on it.
As far as the clutch, the simplest mod it to pull the front drive clutch and remove 2 of the weights, that will raise the engagement point, and keep it in the power band a lot better, making it a real hill climber and snappier accelleration.

Just a though, because I have recently seen this,

Check to see if your exhaust gasket is bad. On a two stroke, it will suck water, mud, etc into the cylinder if it is. I recently seen one with mud inside, yes I said mud. The cylinder and head had mud inside the ports and combustion chamber.

I had wondered about that. I recently discovered that the pipe is broke. I geuss I will get a new one and change the gasket in the process. It looks like they have backed into something with it. Now we all know thats not the most likely thing so I would geuss that they tried pushing it with their badger. Kids!!! Go figure!! Sorry mom! Payback is hell!!!
