Default First grass drags with stock 04'baja X

On sunday I entered my Baja X in the grass drags. I entered the stock big bore class and in the Open class dash for cash (i.e. run what you brung). I red lighted in the stock class and was DQ'd. Without the DQ my ET would have been 6.01 @ 51.68 mph at 300ft. not to bad considering I had to let off at the start due to wheelie problems. I would have won the class. Then I entered the Dash for cash and went against all the other classes. 32 quads were entered in this event including some of the baddest Drag only banshees I have ever seen in N.Y. In this class I ended up taking fourth place overall and ran a 5.94 @ 52.34mph at 300ft with my stock class Baja X! I ended up losing to a extremely built 01'DS (don't know the cc's) and two of the Drag Banshees. I feel that my times were acceptable for a stock class machine as I did beat some built machines in the process (tecates, 250r's, Banshees,Raptors, Z/Kfx's and Cannondales) With the addition of a wheelie bar and some different than stock tires I feel that I could EASILY run high 5.6's or low 5.7's. With a few mods maybe 5.4's or less. What do you think, am I being overambitious with my expectations? Or did I do OK. What about the Wheelie bar and tires? I had fun at this event with the short 300ft track and would like to do it again in the future. The starting area was clay with the rest of the track being grass.

that kick a$$ I got a 2000 and hearing about these x's in drags is cool makes me wonder if I should up grade!!
question is the front sprocket on the x still a 16T ?

For sure if you open up that exhaust jet up to about 170- 172.5 you will hit those #'s

The stock front is still 16T but I have upgraded to a 17T. It helped alot on the viscious wheelying but I still had wheelie problems with very hard launches on that Clay surface. And I don't want to get a longer swing arm because this is my trail/fun machine, So I plan on making a wheelie bar and strapping down the suspension in the future.

Yes you will beat him top end but it is kind of close because DS's come undergeared from the factory. Put a 17 tooth front sprocket on which is what the DS's motor really should have and you will easily walk away from him on top end. With the factory rev limiter I am getting 81.9mph with th 17T front sprocket. I also feel the overall drivability is better with the change. I also seem to launch harder and faster with the 17T which goes against conventional wisdom, but maybe it is because the sprocket cut down on the excessive wheelying of the stock X.

You riders from NY should think about coming to Trumansburg for the drags this weekend. Both Sat. and Sun.

This will be NYSATVDRA's last event of the year. These are the same guys that put on the event last week in Akron. Hope to see you there.

Thanks Kyle. By the way thanks for kicking my a$$ with that snowmobile No, I won't be there this weekend. I have season Bills tickets and it is now hunting season. Both of which I am NOT going to miss! I will start again next year probabally and will have a few goodies up my sleave. Thanks for the words of encouragement.
