Problems with TrailBoss 330
#1
Hello, my '03 Trailboss is only a couple of months old, probably less than 20 hours on it. Yesterday I rode it for the first time in cold weather, around 35 degrees. I couldn't get the atv to idle at all, everytime I would let off the gas it would stall no matter how long it was running. Also, when I would let off the gas it would backfire, it never did this before. What are some things I should check for? Never had an atv before so I am not sure what could be causing this. It also seemed to have a little less power than normal. Is it due for a tune up, or is there some 20 hour service I am supposed to do? Thanks for any advice.

hsach, my guess is that your quad was running well in the warm weather and now badly in the colder weather. Is that correct?? if so, then i would guess that you need to re-jet your quad. I think, not for sure, that you need to go to a smaller jet. Hopefully someone will double check my answer here, and give me a way of remembering the jetting "system." well i hope that helps some. It sounds to me that you have to much throttle free play or your throttle over ride system is messed up.You should have 1/8th to a 1/4 inch of play in the throttle .Any more than that and you will get the problems you are having.Adjust it and go from there.

Just an update to my problem. It's fixed! As soon as I adjusted the throttle cable she purred like a kitten. Thanks to everyone who replied, saved me a trip to the shop. No more stalling or backfires. Now I have to decide if I want to take it back in for the 20 hour service or just do it myself, it's probably not hard but I am becoming more and more lazy. Thanks again everyone.

How is the throttle cable adjusted? atthe carb. or on the thumb throttle? mine is roough to warm up and backfires when cold too.
