Default Shifter problem with a 1999 Magnum 325 4x4

A buddy has this atv and has just started having some problems with it. Problem is when he shifts it into forward and takes off it'll kick back into neutral in 20-30 feet. If he holds the shifter with his foot it'll stay in gear.

Haven't had time to look into it yet. I was hoping yall could give me some ideas or if someone has experienced this before.

Thanks,
Rob

Robin,

check the adjustment rods for the shifter, one is just slightly out of adjustment, it may only take a quarter turn or less. The inside rod controls low forward, the outside rod controls High. Good Luck

Don't let the hp numbers fool you. Its all in how you get it to the ground. Clutching clutching clutching!

Like I have said before check the oil in the shifter ,the rod adjustment ,and the alluminum shift levers on the tranny. If these dont do it the shift fork in the tranny is wore.Oh yea check the idle too.It could also be the primary clutch not releasing all the way too.It can get complicated but check the eaasy things first.

This may seem too simple - but I have seen 'em not shift due to low or no lube in the tranny.

it might be you linkage adjustment or it could be a bearing or somethign inside you transmission.........check the linkage first....and it you cant get the linkage mess with it for a while cause it is sorta hard to get it if you havent done it before
