fbird,

The upper u-joint is larger than the lower one. NAPA part# 507 for the upper NAPA part# 995 for the lower. If you change them yourself they have keeper rings on the inside. I just changed both of the lower ones on my 96 SP500. It was a fairly easy job but I would advise you to wash the inside of the hubs very good before you start. I used a can of wheel bearing grease to grease the bearing surfaces when putting everthing back together.

Those part numbers may work; however, if you want to go back with what came on the sp500 the part numbers are Neapco 1-1275 and Neapco 1-1875. The only difference between buying these u-joints and the ones the polaris dealer sells is the part # on the box.

I believe it is the lower u-joint. I am not sure though. I purchased both and and don't remember which is which. I know the 1-1875 is the larger of the two. Not much help I guess.
Also the these part numbers can only be found at auto parts stores. The same part will have a different number and price at polaris. I know ABC Auto carries them. Any good CV driveline shop should stock them.

The upper u-joint is bigger than the lower. But the upper has 1in. caps and the lower has 1 1/16in. caps. After I got my new ones from the parts store for $9.00 each I stopped by the polaris dealer to price them $40.00 each. The polaris mechanic said they were both standard automotive joints so any good brand should work fine. I thought it was nice that they didn't try to rip me off.

when I had all my ujoints redone, I took them to a bearing place in town here that does u joints(about $20 a joint). and the gut told me that 1 ujoint is like chevys design and the other ford or dodge design, not sure of any detail which one was which, or if he said they just look like them, sorry cant remember. just thought that was intresting.
