Recon Front Brakes
#1
Hi,
I have a 2003 Recon with very low hours. Only owned it for about 2 months. The front brakes are useless, pretty much since it was new. The resivoir is full but when you pull the lever it bottoms out easily and there is barely any braking. The rears work fine. Do the front drums have any type of adjuster? Any other ideas?
Thanks!

yep on the back side of the brake setup is a rubber plug, try adjusting them with the wheels off the ground and turn the wheel as you adjust to make sure you are not adjusting them off. adjust untill you get a little resistence . do both wheels the same. if this does not help , take the wheel off , it might be full of water , mud etc.

If the Recon is still under warranty then you should take it back to the dealer to have the problem resolved. If you try to correct it yourself and you make a mistake, Honda will not pay to correct your mistake but they will pay to correct their mistake. You'll have plenty of time to do things yourself after the warranty runs out.

honda brakes suck. If you plan to keep the quad for awhile, bite the bullet now and buy the disc brake conversion. You will be glad you did. If adjusting it doesn't work for you, throw the stock front brakes in the garbage and do the conversion.

I'd like to thank everyone for the suggestions. I was going to make an appointment to get it looked at, but then I did the unthinkable and READ THE OWNERS MANUAL! I know, last resort. Anyway, both wheels were way out of adjustment, all I had to do was basically what roscoe said and tighten the adjusters until the wheel locked up then back off 2-3 clicks. The brakes work great now, good enough to do a stoppie.
Thanks again everyone!
