question about heated grips?
#1
i will be installing a kimpex handlebar grip heater kit on my 700 praire and was wondering what kind of grips i should use with it? i don't want them to melt. would those gel grips survive? the kimpex kit i am getting is from dennis kirk and they are rated at 25 watts on low and 35 on high. do you think my machine can handle that much wattage along with a thumb warmer? thanks for any help.

Your stock grips, or whichever grips you choose, even gel grips will be fine with whatever your handwarmers can put out. Your P700 can easily handle the output of your grip & thumb heater on high.

on some grips they have to be glued, if not, every time that you turn the heaters on they will get loose and might pull off, or roll enough to break where the wire leads are soldered onto the heat element. i would try them first to see how they react to the heat. you can always soldier the leads back on if necessary . when installing the kit, mark where the present handgrip ends, the warmer should be installed so that it is under the grip about a 1/8 to 1/4 inch and a piece of electric tape covering the end where the wires come out to keep the wires from rolling if the grip should get loose. use caution on these handwarmers as they can get damn hot.

I put the Hot Grips soft grips on my 650. They work great and the best part is, they don't get too hot. I rode a friend of mine's quad with the Kimpex heaters, and like Roscoe said, they get damn hot!! Too hot for my liking.
