Performance upgrades for Prairie 700?
#1
What can I do to get more performance out of my Prairie 700? I have seen a few references to exhaust systems, air filter and jet kits, springs, etc., but I cannot seem to locate where to buy them or what they cost. I am familiar with how the exhaust system/filter/jet upgrades can benefit me, but this is my first automatic and I do not have a clue about the different ways that the clutch can be tuned with springs and weights. Can someone give me a quick lesson on the clutch thing and point me in the right direction for some performance parts? Also, any comments on what has worked for you guys and what hasn't would be great. Money is too hard to come by to be wasting it something that isn't worthwhile. Thanks.

Reading doesn't cost anything. It's all in this and other forums.

Just today I put a down payment on a new P700, I hope to get it next week! I'm already looking at aftermarket cuz I can't leave anything stock, never could. I'm thinking of trying those new Maxxis wheels and some Outlaw radials, but neither are available yet as far as I know. I want to put a pipe on, don't know what all is available and whos making them, I heard HMF's are real loud? I want someone to explain a DG holeshot module to me please when I think of DG I think of pipes, bumpers, nerfs, skids, ect... I been riding a 400 scrambler since 98 so the P700 is a big change for me, I rode one for about a 1/2 hour today and couldn't get the smile off my face! Does anyone know if any of the aftermarket pipes have approved spark arrestors? I got a citation in my home state (Wisconsin) once it's rare but the DNR checks once in a while on state trails. They have me on as a new member cuz my old sign-in info doesn't work so I had to create a new name and password, that sucks but oh well I'm back used to be (pinemeister) not anymore. thanks for any tips on a new P700

BD048... the Hole Shot Module is one of many frequency genorators being made, that removes the built in retard from the timing, at the very bottom end ( the v twin produces, what the factory lawyers interpreted as too much bottom end & top end power, for average riders, so they built in timing retard at both the very bottom end & the top end rpm range, of the CDI )... & the one you are refering to, is Diamond G Racing, not DG aluminum products... I haven't yet sat down & tapped out a response to your e-mail... look for it later...

as far as performance mods go... cost / effect...
#1...Tires... as the power increases, putting it to the ground can become as important as any other performance mod...
#2...DGR or similar bottom end frequency modulator... drag dimes on gravel may not do this mod justice, as it will either make you wheelie more in good traction situations, or spin the tires more
#2.5... top end unlimiters as they get released, will remove the retard from the timing on the top end... not a magic key though, as it takes more horse power to gain an extra few miles per hour on the top end, than it does on the bottom end
#3...snorkle improvement... weather you use the DGR snorkle, or the NAPA hose, the restricted stock snorkle, greatly reduces air flow through the engine
#4... exhaust mod... weather its the NYROC mod of the stock exhaust, or an aftermarket unit... the Pendland series Big Gun, that I currently use, weighed less than half what the stock exhaust did
#5... Filter & jetting... typically after the snorkle, filter, & exhaust have been done, the quad will need to be rejetted... if the quad was jetted correctly in the 1st place, you won't really be making anymore power, until it requires rejetting... this may be after each of 3#, #4, & #5
#6... clutching mods... several people have had good luck changing the clutches rotational mass, fly weights, & primary & secondary clutch springs... typically a heavier ( black ) spring is added to the secondary clutch to keep it tighted ( a plus for bigger tires ), & springs with different profiles are used in the primary clutch ( typically a heavier primary clutch spring, acts like a stall converter in a car, raising the engagement rpm )
#7... Cams... the best way, ( short of a new CDI ( currentl unavailable )), to really increase the power, is an aftermarket cam
#8... flowing the heads ( typically called porting & polishing )
a tach can help alot, when it come to power tuning, I highly raccomend one...

Does DGR have a website? I originally was going to get a KFX V force but that was in June, I thought about it all summer and fall now and decided the P700 was more for me, I am getting a little older and decided that I could use more of a sport utility type machine, when I originally was looking into the KFX I heard something about the top end limiter. Kawasaki did this on my ZX12R Ninja too, I guess 187 mph is enough anyways, I have never been over 130 on it.
