Rincon with Dynojet, K&N, and HMF jetting
#1
I just installed an HMF pipe (with quiet core), a K&N filter (without the outer cover), and a Dynojet jet kit. Everything else is stock. Following the instructions in the Dynojet kit, I put the clip on the 2nd goove on the needle, put BOTH stock spacers under the needle and the Dynojet washer on top. I used the DJ148 main jet. Mixture screw is out 3 turns.
Idle and low speeds seem to be fine, but it is bogging and dying at higher speeds. The plug stays nice and brown.
I think I need to go to a smaller main jet, but I am not sure. I hate carbs and they hate me, so I would like any input you guys and gals can offer.

Put your e-clip on the 3rd groove. I am running stock exhaust and have it on the 3rd groove and the mid-range is awesome, but I only have ONE stock washer under the e-clip so yours may be equal to mine. When you nail it full throttle does it bog and die? What is your elevation level?

Yellow, first of all, your installation page was very helpful.
Yes it does die when I open it up. It bogs, sputters, and dies. It even backfired a couple of times.
Most of my riding is below 3000 feet (650-2400 is the range at Holister Hills where I usually ride).
If I move the e-clip to the third groove, should I leave both washers underneath it?
I've been thinking I need to go down one main jet size, do you think I should stay with 148 when I move the clip?
thanks.

Yes, try going down one jet size to the 146. But that sounds weird that yours is possibly running rich with only a 148. I have bone stock exhaust and just switched to a 146 tonight, in hopes it will improve top end. It would seem strange that yours could run with an HMF and the same main jet as mine. But, it's worth a shot. Try the 146 and get back to me.
As for the needle, it's the easiest to change. So, yes, you can try only using one stock washer under the e-clip and put the clip on the 3rd groove. If it doesn't help out, you can quickly put it back to the way you had it.

rpaske,
I bought one of these:
http://www.hmfengineering.com/quietcore.html
with my pipe order from ATV Direct.
With the quiet core, it is louder than stock, but it didn't seem too bad to me. However, I'm still having carb issues so I could't really test it at WOT.

yeah HH is a fun place to ride. I have a blast every time I go there. It can get crowded on weekends though. I don't know if it is worth the trip from Nevada, but if you happen to be in the area it is a good time.
We've had some rain here so it's good and muddy right now.
