Default Winch quits working in 4 wheel drive

MY brother has a 2000 quadmaster 500, he got it from a guy who beat the hell out of it, it is a project,,
bike looks good runs good now but , When using the plow the winch quits working when he puts it on 4 wheel drive, any suggestions ???????????????????
And if the bike is in 4 wheel drive going forward, can it slip out of 4 wheel drive when in backing up???????????????

Sounds to me like whomever installed the winch tagged a circuit that is only live when the bike is in 2wd. To check this, use a test light on the wire that the winch gets it's switched power circuit from. If the light remains on during both 2wd and 4wd, it is possible that the connection is corroded, or possibly that there is too much current draw to support both items.

Hope this helps.

It doesn't make sense it would not work it 4wd if it works in 2wd. I agree it might be tied a circuit is only gets power in 4wd. Not much else would make sense. His power souce should come directly from the batter to the Contactor or the solenoid.. Let us know if he finds out what the problem is.
