I just bought a new Rancher 4x4 almost a month ago and absolutely love it. I have no problems at all. A buddy of mine also bought a new Rancher 4x4 a few days ago, and everything is fine except his quad seems to have a whistling sound coming from the front end somewhere when he is in 5th gear, and only in fifth gear. My Rancher does not have this problem. Has anyone else experienced this whistling sound when in 5th gear on their Rancher? Does anyone know what this noise is from, and if this is a problem? Any information would be helpful. Thanks.

I bought a rancher in December and another one a few weeks ago. I also noticed the whisting on my new one. My original Rancher never made this noise. The machine works perfectly so I wasn't really concerned about the noise. If you find out what it is, I'd like to know. I was planning on asking my dealer about it the next time I see him.

I purchased my Rancher in March, it now has 400 miles. No whistling noise that I have noticed.

Mine has as well whistled in 5th gear, but like the others no notice of performance loss or anything and it was not a problem in my first service so no worries.

Well, I guess it doesn't sound like it should be a problem for him then. Thanks everyone. Any other input welcome.

My friends 99' Kodiak does it too, sounds like a turbo in 4th and 5th. No problems yet

I posted a similar topic when I first got my Rancher. Same replys ... some do it .. some don't. It is now 500 miles later, it still whistles, and I love it more and more.

Look at the positive side ... it sounds like a turbo. ;-)

The wistling probably dosnt have any thing to do with the engine just something thats on the plastic or frame of it that would make wistleing noises when it going fast. Like if you have a metal latter with the holes in the side and you put it on top of a truck or van it wistles
