transmission/transfer case fluid,clunking sounds

im going to try b&m synthetic trick shift transmission fluid for my transmission/transfer case..its supposed to be good..any opinions? im tired of paying polaris prices and had to change my fluid.. reason im changing it is if im riding and give it the gas real quick and then let off you can hear a light clunking from the case..if you jack up the rear and roll the tires freeplay back an forth you can feel a light clunking in the driveline, most of it feels like its in the trans. case..does anyone know if this is normal? the machine has about 65-70 hours on it and the drain plug magnet didnt have alot of metal shavings on it..is it just normal wear now that its been fully broken in? i want to ride tomorrow nite so any help a.s.a.p. would be greatly apreciated..thanks in advance

A friend of mine just took his 00 Trailboss in because of a clunking noise in the transmission. They said he would need a new transmission and it was going to cost $1200.00. He called Polaris and they said they would pay to have it done. That's ridiculous considering it's only around a year old.

B&M Trick Shift is NOT for use in ATV Transmissions... It is a friction modifier used to make Automatic AUTOMOBILE transmissions shift firmer... There is no wet-clutch pack in the Polaris Transmission for a friction modifier to work on... It would be a waste of money...
If you want to run something other than Polaris GearCase oil, use Mobil 1 Synthetic Gear oil..
Some slack in the gears is normal, if you have the older chain transmission, you might suspect the chain for stretch... they aren't expensive to buy or replace..

Hey i know this may sound stupid but in the summer time i have run 80w90 and have never had a problem, i have diluted it with atf, and that also helps to tell you if you have water in the oil. Also know of others doing this and also people running straight dexron or atf again no compaints.

ive got a 2000 magnum 325 4x4..the b&m fluid is a lillte thicker than atf.i know in pick up trucks ,the transfer cases are filled with atf and i looked at the breakdown pics of the tranny for the machine and it doesnt look much different than a transfer case.. thats why i asked the pro`s out here..i thought it was a normal sound but wanted to make sure,it does seem like it`s just lear lash..i`ll just keep an eye on it..thanks for the help

Using Polaris fluids is expensive but WAY cheaper than rebuilding parts that fail due to improper lubrication. Tranny fluid from Polaris is not expensive if you change is twice per year (20oz per change) maybe $5 per year? Be very careful using alternate fluids.

One of our riders has a Scrambler '99 M.Y. Last month while out riding, we lost him. Found out later, he had stopped because of a noise in the trans. When he got it home and investigated, he saw that the clutches where scrapping a seal located on the back side of the shaft. I think he said he's purchasing new clutches and the seal. Though this may not be your problem, he did say, the noise got louder the faster he went. God luck, hope it helps.
