How do you know if your 400ex's throttle cable needs adjusting?

I pulled back the rubber boot from around the throttle adjuster. Unscrew the cable adjuster about a 1/4 of an inch. Take a test ride to see if you have more throttle response.
It made a difference on my Rancher & Recon.

word perfect strikes again.....Start by removing the black air intake boot on the back side of the carb. Look into the large hole and the choke will be visible. Beyond the choke, work the thumb throttle and you will see the "slide" moving up and down.
At full throttle, the slide should be seated all the way to the top (disappearing from sight). Take your finger and check for further movement if there is room and adjust the cable at the thumb throttle till the slide remains at the top position at full throttle.
You can bet the ranch that there will be room to raise it on a 2000 model!...probably at least 3\8ths of an inch. Re-install the boot and let her rip.
