polaris 4 wheel drive system
#1
mornin' fellas
i was wondering how polaris machines handle overall when the 4 wheel drive engages. do you get quite a bit of understear or pushing through corners? i am not badmouthing polaris here. i know that when the 4 wheel kicks in it is a "true fourwheel drive" and to me that seems like it would push quite a bit. i know when i lock my front diff. i might as well be riding a snowmobile on pavement. my brother in law has an old polaris 300 4x4 2-stroke that we are trying to troubleshoot some 4 wheel drive problems on and i just want to learn as much as possible about the system.
thanks for the help.....

My stearing changed drastically, when I bought my super mud bug mud tires. My stearing now is very good. The most dramatic display of my a.w.d. was last year when my atv was pretty new. I backed up down into a hole where there was almost no traction to the back tires. I was stuck in 2.w.d. and put it in 4.w.d. and my atv actually jumped up
and out of the hole. My polaris was up in the air.
Not far up but up. I posted to you somewhere else that my dad has the exact same atv your talking about. the 300 nonnamed 4x4. His atv does not due what you described?? When down in a mud hole, there are many times when the atv will drive or turn in what ever direction it wants to go and no man is strong enough to stop it. You can stop the machine but thats all. For my xpedition, going down a hill is no problem. In 2nd. gear my atv goes down nice and smooth. I have not experienced this sliding I have been hearing about. For me, when 4x4 takes over, only occasionally do I know that it really kicked in. Like when it should be difficult to drive through a bad spot but your polaris just steadily drives through like it cannot be stoped. If I go up a hill. I put it in 4x4 before the hill and apply a good but steady pressure on the throttle and the atv simply drives up the steep hill. I normally have no feeling that
4x4 ever kicked in. I make it up the hill thats about all. It normally just like that... rangerchet - 2000 polaris xpedition 425 cc 5-speed.

Polaris AWD is not always engaged like your Suzuki. It only engages when the rear wheels spin. If you want to learn a lot about Polaris AWD system look up a thread called "how to hotwire Polaris 4 wheel drive" or something like that about a week ago. There is a lot of info in there that could be helpful. Good Luck
