Default tach rpm ?

I installed a new tach from bombardier in my 2001 ds, and noticed that it hits the rev limiter a 7000rpm!!! The ds doesn't seem to pull that hard from 6000 -7000 either. Could the tach be wrong? Would cutting the carb spring help open it up on top end 6000- to limiter? Its hard to start when cold too. Is this a sighn that I really need to set the valves or something? I bought it used and know nothing about its past as i got it from a dealer. They said they did all the maint on the quad but who knows???

it wouldn't hurt to adjust the valves or at least check them. the ds will pull very hard to the rev limiter if it's jetted right. it hard to know your going to hit the rev limiter it pulls that hard, i always thought i was in the sweet spot then it would cut out.

Default tach rpm ?

I went to set the valves and noticed that the cams were not in time. I got the intake to line up but the exhuast is out 1/2 a tooth. Can this be fixed some how? Which way should it be "out" the 1/2 tooth as in advanced or retarded? What is the "thing" on the right end of the exhaust cam? It looks like some kind of centerfigal wieght that holds open the valve. What the hell is that for??????
