There are 3 different models of the LT230

1985-1986 LT230G.......A shaft drive utility quad
1988-1993 LT230E.......A sportquad with an auto clutch
1985-1988 LT230S.......A sportquad with a manual clutch

Be sure of which one you are really getting if he says it's a 1993 model.
