Guys I have a 2004 rancher es 4 x 4 that i just installed a 424 on and i have a few questions.

I had to stop because it was about 20 outside and i will finnish in the morning, got a late start tonight on it.
The drive axle "propellar shaft" is installed and the boots are on correctly but i have a question on the Drive sleeve where it connects to the engine output shaft the drive sleeve is about a 1/2" from touching the casing I greased the shaft and installed the spring correctly and I don't rember whn I took it apart if it was up tight agaisnt the engine or not.

Also i have the cable where and mounted and i am able to pull it out for 2 wheel drive and i have a good click when it engages in 2 wheel drive and if i push the button it releases and goes back to 4 wheel drive.

I installed the anti rotation strap and when i shift bettween 2 wheel and 4 wheel drive and turn the front drums there is no diffrent in how it feels it seems as it is staying in 4 wheel drive even tho the switch is working.

Does the engine have to be running and do i have to be going slow to engage the 2 wheel drive or is the drive sleeve my problem? I torqued down all the mounted bolts and everything is done except for putting the fenders back on and the wheels.

You could feel the spline lining up when i instaled the propelar shaft and it bolted up with no proiblem.

Any suggestions?

Update

It works fine, without the tires on I was not turning it far enough to see it engageing and disengaging.

I have test drived it and it turns alot better but it will take a little while to get use to.

I went up a hill that i ride up all the time it is pretty steep but small it allows me to excess a big field to ride on, I was sliding down the hill in 2 wheel drive so i just eased on the breaks and let it slide backwards and then put it back in forward drive and went over it.

Would have not been a problem in 2 wheel drive if i was going faster but there is a road near by and i usually just go real slow up the hill so i don't run into on comming traffic [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/img]

Way to early to tell but for the easier steering and turning alone it is worth it.

you do also feel the power going to the real wheels and before you did not in 4 wheel drive, a 350 is not a fast machine anyway and that is not why I have it.

The rancher is primarily for pulling a trailer and maybe a fallen tree like yesterday and to go trail riding and maybe hunting.

I had my neighbors 2005 Rancher4x4ES up to 43MPH!
I think thats fast ...for a ute!

 

424 adds such a fun element to the bike its not even funny, gives it way more torque, while in 2x4 haha, best thing i ever bought, also the turn reduction is amazing i could barely turn the bike on pavement now it runs beatiful

 

Sooner or later you guys are going to convince me to part with some hard earned money and get a 424...

 

I just installed my 424 yesterday and it definitely adds a new notch on the fun scale. It is fun to break the rear-end loose on gravel, etc.
