Took the Dirt Devils for a rip in the snow this weekend....

Man do they dig better than the stock Goodyears! Only downfall is they ride a lot harder on hard pack and ice.
We were in areas where the snow (that dry, powdery stuff, with a hard crust) was over 18" deep, and the AC650 with 26" DD just kept on digging! Really amazing! Also went into some 20+" stuff, but you had to drive into it to pack it, and back and forth....
I was playing with my buddy who has a 660 Grizzley with 26" Gators. In the 18" stuff, I could drive circles around him (that extra 2" of ground clearance makes a huge difference!).
But, when we got into the 10-12" stuff, the Gators would out-perform the DD's in a heartbeat. His Grizz in 2wd performed like my AC650 in 4wd (not locked).
Looking at the tread pattern in the snow, I think they should be really sweet on the dirt trails. They don't paddle as good as Gators in the snow and muck, but they look cooler.

Hey Wires, The Dirt Devil XT's are a tire i've been looking at for my AC650, over all others. Sorry to hear there rough riding on hardpack. I'll be riding in all kinds of terrain & i'm sure on the larger trails you'll have a certain ammount of hard dirt roads. What setting do you have your shocks on. Just from the looks of the tread, i thought they would be really smooth riding. I bet they do well on most dirt trails, & will handle mud & snow ok. I'm also looking at the Titan 489XT's, but haven't heard much about them . Most of my riding will be in soft dirt, but out west it could be any terrain. Would you buy the Dirt Devils again? I found a great deal on them. I may go with the 27"er's, haven't decided yet. I'd like to hear more on the DD's, if you'd care to post
more info on them. Regards, Jerico1

Hey jerico1
I put the xt 489's on my ac 500 this fall. It's quit the tire.Did'nt have to chain up this winter while plowing snow. A friend has the same machine that I do, he had to chain up all winter with at 489's on. Got real stupid and went into some deep stuff, Dan got stuck(chained up) and I had to pull him out. Do I like the xt's? you bet. $44 a piece plus ship. I ain't gunna complain. Hard pack ride is almost as smooth as the 489's.

They weren't too bad. I was running 5 PSI (I've recently dropped them to 4 PSI which should improve the ride). Any vane type tires are going to be a little more harsh. I'd definately buy them again. I have the XT tires. One thing I like is the tread pattern. Looks really aggressive when parked (yeh, it's a stupid reason, but oh well.
I just found them to produce vibration on hard pack. That's pure hard pack. Most of the trails have some dirt covering, and in those situations they aren't that bad. I'm running shocks at setting 3 on the front, 4 in the back.
If you're going to play in deep snow and mud, I'd recommend the dirt devils up front for handling, and Gators out back for awesome traction.
I've heard great things about 589's as well. I'd assume the same type of ride though....
