okay guys i dont want any BS on this topic,exactly how reliable are lt250's,87-92 models cause i think im gonna get one.also what can i do to one with $1000?please guys give me the truth on this.thank ye

ok...i really like mine, but it has had its share of problems. Most of it is due to previous owners not caring about it. I think im the first in a while that actually take care of something. The engine has been very reliable, except lately i cant stop fouling plugs during the warm up stage. If u were to go looking at them, look the swing arm and frame over REALLY well. Also, check all the bearings. Yank on the swingarm and a-arms etc for any play. This has been my biggest cost. I had to buy a new swingarm, and all the old bearings were non-existant. They were just gone. But just look them over very well. If only i had 1000 to spend on mine. You can do allll kinds of stuff...I would prolly put it towards (key words...put it towards) new works front shock, revlalving the rear, LRD pipe and porting, carb, and powdercoating everything. Thats pretty much my dream as of now. There are a lot other things to do though...

I have a '92 LT. Its been bulletproof. Other than a clutch cable I havent had one serious breakdown yet. Mind you I rebuilt it from top to bottom including the tranny. So my suggestion for the $1000 is go over that bike with a fine tooth comb. Use the money to replace anything thats bent, broken, worn, damaged, missing or siezed.
Unless you know fore sure its a solid bike, then I'd go for a silencer & chamber as well and a filter and jet kit, assuming its stock.
Im sure youll get some other great advice I left out.

Yep, I'd take Rodney's advice on this. Even if a lot of stuff is worn out, it still won't cost ya too much. After you've got over it with a fine tooth comb, reliability isn't much of an issue for a while. If it looks a little rough, replace all the gaskets, oil seals, bearings, bushings, and you'll still have money left over for a port/polish new bore, and maybe even a new pipe. After all, it is a two stroke, so if you ride it hard, you're going to have to rebuild it soon anyways, might as well do it now. Unless it has all been recently done.
