Default Starter will not disenage

Has anyone had a problem with starter? I Have a 02 500i cat with 1100 miles. I was riding on a trail today in the snow and stopped to put her in 4wd when i heard the starter cranking away. I pushed the start switch to check if had got stuck in or bumped while i was riding.. No luck starter still cranking. Turned of key then back on starter started cranking by itself without touching the start switch. I disconnect power at the start seined and used the pull starter to start the cat. Anybody know where to look or what parts needed to fix this. THanks for the replys.

PS. I was riding with a guy in the snow 12-16 inches that had a set of big horns tires on a 650 honda. I had to be in 4wd to keep up with him when he was still in 2wd. These tires are awesome have to be the best tire for the trail and snow. it made a believer out of me.. I have stock tires ...but next year will have a set of Big horns.

Mastercat, your starter solenoid has welded it's contact probaly. To check it, disconnect the plug at the solenoid and if it still cranks when the key is switched on then the solenoid is bad. If it doesn't crank check for power to the pins in the plug fom the rig, not from the solenoid. If there is power on one of the pins, you need to trace that wire back to the start button to see where the power is coming from.
