Default trax 350 top speed

I put a uni air filter in my fourtrax 350 and i didn't get any top end out of it. I could do 83 km/h before and it still does 83 km/h. Did i do something wrong or did i just waste my money? Is there a speed limiter that is causing it to stay at 83 km/h? Any help will be great.

Don't expect much top speed out of any mods you do unless it has to do with gearing or tires. Here is how I was explained this by a tech at MMI.

Say your engine revs to 8000 rpm. If you can hit that rpm in top gear then you have achieved max speed. Now, if you do more things to your quad and get say 15 more horepower and your engine still revs to 8000rpm then you will still go the exact same speed as stock. This is because gears in the transmission are still spinning the same speed that they were when your machine was stock. Now if you change the gearing either by sprockets or tires then you can go faster. The 15 horsepower you added will get you to that top speed faster than if you didn't have it.

I hope this makes sense to you. It took me some time to understand it. You should have noticed faster acceleration and better throttle repsonse after you got the air filter. I wouldn't think you have wasted your money. You just put a better part on your quad.

Sorry to disappoint but you will need to change the sprockets or get bigger tires if you want more speed.

ISH is right however an exception to this is when a machine can't reach its maximum rpm in high gear. If this is the case, each bolt on will help top speed.

Here are some things to try for free:

Over-inflate the tires ..... this will decrease rolling resistance and also slightly change the gearing

Lay down on the machine to decrease the wind resistance

i bleive the basic thing hes trying to say is that more power wont increase top speed. it will jsut halp u get there, mabye, quicker and with more power spread throughout the power band.
