My freind has a 1982 250 enduro 4 stroke and the spark plug area got crossed strip, so it won't go down, so he needs to tap and dye, what do u have to do to get off the head, I never helped someone with a 4 stroke engine and over head cams thanks

 

The best thing to do is try and find an owners manual. If you have a decent amount of mechanical ability and some basic hand tools ( including a torque wrench) it should walk you through the process.

 

You can get a spark plug thread chaser at an auto parts store, you can do it without taking the head off,if you are careful. run the piston all the way up,to limit the room the chips have to fall,put a little grease on the tap, that way,almost all of the chips will stick to it,and it will turn easier.Slowly back it out after fixing the threads, to keep chips from falling off the tap, then open the throttle wide open,put a shop vac on the hole, and run it a while to see if you can get anything out, or take the air box off, and blow an air gun through the intake. I did this on my car, cranked the motor to blow anything out, and it was fine after that. I realize with a 2 stroke, you have the ports in the cylinder, so you don't want to crank it over,or any chips might end up in the motor. This should get you on your way faster,without taking the head off.
