My dad has a 700, I would like to see something like that on his. That sounds really cool..never thought about doing something like that. Hope you find something out. If you figure it out on your own....post the info. Thanks Brad

Currently there is no reverse light kit available, the reason being that the transmission switch on any drum shift tanny sends a low voltage signal to the speedo modified by a resistor pack, which the speedo reads and then displays the corresponding gear selection. To incorporate a reverse switch into any sportsman that has a drum shift transmission would require the same technology used in the speedometer, which would make it a very spendy kit..... maybe someone has a mechanical set-up they've created?? If so, please let me know.......

Dexrex......you said low voltage, how much voltage are talking about? Maybe just enough to trip a relay......i'm hoping! maybe wiring in a diode with the relay to prevent backfeed voltage? just scratching my brain..... thanks

Your best bet would be to fashion a 'bump' type switch and bracket that activates a light source when the shift mechanism is moved to Reverse. Other than that you'll have to do it manually. The voltages used to communicate shift position to the speedometer are less than 3vdc. I haven't measured exactly, but it's around that..... I wouldn't tack on any kind of a draw to the system, as it will probably confuse the speedo operation........

i know this isn't what you were asking about but why not just put in a toggle switch and turn the light on when you back up? it's much easier and you can use it anytime you want without putting the machine in reverse , such as when towing something in the dark and you want to keep an eye on it. that's what i did and it works great. nice for gutting out a deer after sundown before i drag it out.

I have tried to get info on this in the past from the dealer and others including this page. The best way to do it is with a toggle switch. I ran my hot wire from the red accy. wire in the headlight pod and fused it. The older machines you could use the purple wire but that changed in 04.
