Predator HP potential?

roughly how much power do you think a pred with a big bore kit, igniton, pipe, air box mods, and any other goodies would make. The reason i ask is because i want to go with either a yfz450 trx450r or predator the only concern i have with the predator is that when there all fixed up the pred will get left behind. I want a bike that will run with virtually every 4-stroke 720 raptors 470 yfz's etc. what do you think?

No problem. And the Predator, despite the hype, is hitting some podiums this year now that the riders have sorted out their rides.
I've heard of 70hp from gas fuelled Predators, haven't verified it myself but with over 40hp stock it doesn't seem out of range. You'll have a hard time beating a Banshee or a LT500 in a drag or heavy sand no matter what you do, though. Sounds like it would be fun to try. The YFZ and TRX won't be a problem.

yeah i keep hearing how much power the predators make stock but if they make that much more power than a raptor stock and weigh about the same why is it that they dont beat them in drag races in stock form?
and is it easy to drop a preds weight they weigh over 50 pounds more than the 450's which certainly wont help in a drag against them.

Uhm... go to http://www.predatorowners.com/ and find out for yourself. Hope your YFZ doesn't start do what a lot of them have been... (hint: BOOM!)

when i raced my buddys yfz he beat me by about 4-5 lenghts. its hard to race my pred and yfz at the same time... cant quite shift them both yet...
and i hope my YFZ doesnt go boom either... just like i hoped my pred wouldnt blow the tranny... but it did.
and there are alot more pred trannys dropping than YFZ's.
not bashing the pred... but thats the facts.
whats at predatorowners anyway? i go there all the time.

The 1st production runs of the Predator had a weak tranny, this is common knowledge. It wasn't as bad as the Raptors, though!
Any first year machine will have issues. The YFZ is having them too, from what I've heard.
For what's at predatorowners.com - see the modification forum for the 580cc+ Predators.

Doug is trying to get 100 hp out of his....but he is having to look real hard to find spots to improve. Hozed, the yfz may beat the pred in a race with equal mods, but drop the pred down to the same wieght and I would think it would be a different story. Plus, I would put the pred ahead on the track too.

Predators have made 70HP + on the dyno and are reliable also. I personally know of 4 predators
that make some big dyno numbers and run very well on the strip. Now for the 450 being faster after mods, i have to disagree. I raced a 14-1, cams, cdi heavily modded YZF 450 with my Predator and it really was not that close of a race. The Pred was a solid .5 tenths of a second faster. There is no replacement for displacement. There are some other factors that go into it but the bigger motors that are properly built with good port work usually end up on top. That's not to say a properly built 450 will not out run a big bore thats not set up properly. It happens all the time, but if both bikes are tuned to maximum potetial the bigger engine usualy ends up on top. The issue of part breaking is just part of the mod game. Every make and every builder will have an engine go
boom at some time. when you are pushing to the limit, parts break, you have to be willing to except that before you play the game.
