Ouch sorry.. my mouse button is sticking.
I took the DS out on pavement today and now since she is broken in.. I decided to ride her hard. I think after tooling down the road I can either stay or beat my Stage III buddy. It feels very similar to his bike. I'm not getting the bottom end torque I thought I'd be getting (front end doesn't come up on demand as I would like) but mid range and upper RPMs the bike hauls buttcheeks. Might be some time before I race my Stage III paddle to paddle or dirt to dirt but I feel more confident now about since I revved her up.
I noticed the cylinder is a lot warmer to the touch than before the nikasil. I'm using engine ice as well. Not once did the fan come on since I put it back together. Then again I haven't been screaming it nor it's it's really hot out.

You say you went on pavment and couldn't bring up the front at will???? Im a little concerned with that statment. I don't think I have a gear in my quad that won't bring up the front at will on pavement. Hummm....

Eagle,
Just out of curiosity (and this is no means to insult anyone or any offense whatsoever) how tall are you and what is your weight. I can lift the front end up but only a few inches. I know big guys (weight and height) have an easier time wheeleing this thing. Again perhaps I'm comparing it too much to my Raptor/400 EX. Those bikes effortlessly I can pull the front end up and carry the front wheels 1-3rd gears. I'm 180 pounds 5-10"ish and I tend to sit near the gas tank. I noticed the larger guys who ride these bikes tend to sit on the rear of the long seat, making it probably easier to wheelie.
I guess I posted incorrectly I can get the wheels up but it's not as effortlessly as I'd hoped. I can defintely switch to a smaller sprocket I'm sure. I just don't want to do it yet because I'm waiting to see when I can go at it with a my Stage III bud's bike and he has mega top end.

Im 210 and 6'. I also ride up on the tank. Expecialy if im on pavement. If I don't roll on the trottle slowly I can not keep the front down at all. It's scary on pavement. I will admit that once I get moving In order to get the front to rise in 4th and 5th I would have to slide back a bit and stab the throttle.
My DS front comes up easier than my EX does. Even in the sand.
A smaller sprocket will definetly give you more bottem end.
Have you done any plug checks to see if your tuned right yet?

Wow really? I always found my former 400 EX easier to lift than the DS.. even in sand (knobbies, not paddles). Anyway the front will come up but not as high or effortlessly as I mentioned before. In the future I may stroke it. I believe I don't have high compression either. The dome on the piston is rather flat and when at TDC there is a 16th maybe less, of gap. I have to stab the throttle in order for the DS to even lift up. I haven't checked the plugs it might be running rich cause I pulled the slide out on my lectron and I found a lot of carbon all around the slide. Also at idle after a few minutes it will shut off. At cold temperatures it fires right up, when it's hot or warm it gives me a bit of starting trouble. Sounds rich huh? Funny thing is when I leaned it out... it was like it was starving. Tomorrow I will do the finishing touches and see what I can iron out. Maybe needs to be dialed in some more.

i'm about the 180-190 range, i can wheelie the ds better than the 400 ex and 300ex i can do good wheelies on all of them but the ds is better, if you make it to oregon bigslim and i will show you how to get the hang of wheelies or wrestling the ds, usually the wheeling wins out. as far as the cylinder heat by the touch of your hand is nonsense. go by a temp gauge they sell at sears, it's like everyone has said the steel will hold the heat better the nikasil pulls the heat out and shows a higher temp, i did go buy a guage and since i have both types of machines i did a little test the stage two with stock cylinder was much hotter. the guage is off a little when i aimed it at my son he was only 95 degrees, he got mad said i could hurt his eye with the red light

Larry, Just admit it!! LMAO, With all your extra weight, you can probably just sit back an inch or two and flip the darn bike back. ( with a +8 swingarm)LOL J/K
Entomber- have you dialed in the bottom end of your carb to the fullest? (Metering rod)
My bike comes up in just about every gear with a snapp of the throttle and a little pull (if I sit back a tad), with +4 swingarm and lowered front end. You may need to do some tuning.
